Role Description – Synagogue Rabbi

Woodside Synagogue Ahavas Torah (WSAT)

Silver Spring, MD

Our Community

We are a close-knit, diverse, Orthodox synagogue located just outside of Washington, DC in Silver Spring, Maryland. We consider our home welcoming, inclusive and tolerant. Our shul has approximately 120 active members and member families and a growing contingent of young members with children. Our shul hosts daily morning and evening minyanim, shabbos youth groups, and frequent programming for both men and women. Our Beit Midrash is well attended with daily shiurim and learning groups.

The shul is situated in a beautiful and historic suburban neighborhood.  The greater community has many Jewish amenities including an Eruv, Mikvah, kosher restaurants, bakeries, butchers, a Jewish Community Center, Jewish day schools, a Yeshiva and Yeshiva Gedolah and several community Kollels.

We are also proximate to many cultural attractions, such as shopping, theaters and museums, a short metro ride away from the heart of DC, and we are within an hour’s

drive to Baltimore.

Our Future Rabbi

We are searching for an energetic part-time Rabbi to help guide our spiritual development. The successful candidate will have the skills and enthusiasm to enhance our kehilah, interact with both older and younger members, and stimulate our learning and synagogue life. Our future Rabbi is able to poskin shailos, teach classes at both advanced and introductory levels, deliver a dynamic Shabbos drasha, as well as provide counseling and pastoral services.

Given that our shul membership is Torah observant and worldly, we would prefer a Rabbi that has both Semicha from a recognized orthodox Yeshiva and a bachelors or higher graduate degree.

Compensation: The salary will be competitive for a part-time position commensurate with qualifications and experience.
